History
AMECRA was founded on April 4 1988 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, by a group of medical specialists from various parts of the country.

The Association's main objective is to bring together physicians and institutions interested in joint surgery and arthroscopy, and channeling joining forces in an organized manner according to the particular needs of the country to increase the development and practice of this field of orthopedic surgery.

For over 15 years of efforts we have made significant achievements in the development and consolidation of joint reconstructive surgery and arthroscopy in Mexico. One of the most important was to obtain recognition for the ANNA AMECRA as the representative body of the arthroscopy in Mexico.

We started with 26 founding partners, and to date we have over 400 members. Through AMECRA our membership has an opportunity to participate in a large number of events, conferences, exhibitions and workshops of scientific nature, promoting unity between the partners and increasing the practice of this specialty of orthopedic surgery in the country.


Background

The origin of orthopedic surgery dates back to Japan where in the mid-twenties Dr. Takagy conducted the first in knee arthroscopy, but it was only in the sixties when Dr. Watanabe, with better-designed lenses, and especially with the implementation of an optical fiber, initiated the modern phase of the arthroscopy.

During the seventies many orthopedists tried to apply the technique of arthroscopy in the treatment of joint injuries. In the eighties and increased
